Ultraviolet B (Broadband and Narrowband): The affected areas of the body are exposed to the UVB for a short time (seconds to minutes). The effects generally become noticeable after seven to ten treatments.
PUVA: Involves ingesting a photosensitizer tablet and standing in a specially designed cabinet containing UVA bulbs one hour later.
Excimer Laser: Is a recent and safe solution for Psoriasis. Performed using a carefully focused beam of laser light.

Biologic agents are made from living organisms. They are used as an alternative treatment to people who haven't had success with other approaches or were uncomfortable with the potential side effects of older medications. We prescribe the following biologic agents:

Enbrel: For long-term, continuous use by persons with moderate to severe psoriatic skin disease or persons with psoriatic arthritis.
Humira: For long-term, continuous use by persons with moderate to severe psoriatic skin disease or persons with psoriatic arthritis.
Stelara: For long-term, continuous use by persons with moderate to severe psoriasis. Administered in the physician’s office.
Amevive: Treatments are given for three months. Is administered in the office, and is paid for as part of the medical benefit of health insurance plans. This may be a useful option for patients with high co-pays for prescription drugs.
Remicade: It is extremely effective for cutaneous psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It is paid for as part of the medical benefit of health insurance plans, and may be a useful option for patients with high co-pays for prescription drugs. Administered by Intravenous infusion.

ORAL MEDICATION
We offer the following oral medications for the treatment of psoriasis:

Methotrexate: Taken once weekly and helps many psoriasis patients. It is used less often than previously because of potential side effects involving the liver and bone marrow.
Neoral (cyclosporine): This is a fast-acting, highly effective medication; its use is limited because of potential side effects.
Soriatane: Is a modified form of vitamin A taken daily to reduce the thickness of psoriatic plaques. It is often used for hand foot disease and it's effective in combination with phototherapy.
